The guided-missile destroyer USS Mahan will return to Naval Station Norfolk Wednesday after completing a seven-month deployment to the Horn of Africa and the Mediterranean Sea.
The ship has a crew of more than 275 sailors and is lead by Cmdr. Kurt A. Mondlak. It is named after Rear Adm. Alfred Thayer Mahan, who is considered the father of the modern Navy for his research and theories supporting the concept of a strong global Navy.
