Interesting piece in the Wall Street Journal: The Army is testing smart phones and tablet computers -- the same ones that consumers use -- for use in the battlefield.
Soldiers might be able to dowloand streaming video from a surveillance drone, for example. (Yes, they can do that now, but the advantage would be using the lighter weight equipment, the story explains.)
Other possible applications: showing an enhanced digital map of the battlefield, or pintpointing the exact location of a wounded soldier for evacuation.
Pretty interesting stuff.
