The Post-9/11 G.I. Bill was signed into law three years ago on June 30, offering returning service members up to three years of education benefits, including tuition, fees and a monthly housing allowance.
Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., introduced the legislation on his first day in office. Since then, more than 875,000 students have applied to receive benefits and more tahn 500,000 students have enrolled in classes.using the bill's benefits.
"The United States has never erred when it has made substantial new investments in higher education and job training -- and its veterans," said Webb in a statement marking the three-year anniversary. "Educated veterans not only have an easier transition and readjustment experience, but they boast higher income levels, which in the long run increase tax revenues."
